Meditation + Prayer Space | 2013

CLIENT: Washington DC Residence
AREA: 3000 GSF
LOCATION: Suburbs of Maryland
TEAM: Maryam Eskandari, Dan Flagin, Wajida Syed, Laury Tom

Devoted to their spiritual heritage and beliefs, the clients wanted a family space that could be used for prayer and meditation, celebrating the Abrahamic faiths - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Inspired by their visits to Morocco, our design concept for the space evoked the aesthetics of a Moroccan lantern while also celebrating the family's pluralistic ideals.

God is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth:
You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness into light. [Bible, Samuel 22:29]
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. [Bible, Psalm 119:105]
The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree [Quran, 24:35]
